suppose axon A enters a ganglion and axon B leaves on the other side. how do you tell if B is an extension of?
A or whether A formed an excitatory synapse on some neuron in the ganglion, whose Axon is axon B?
What you would have to do is inject a radioactive tracer into axon A, and monitor axon B for any radioactivity. Alternatively, you could try one of the green fluorescent proteins (and again, monitor axon B).
